Job Opportunities 2023-2024

One-Year Full-time Non-tenure Track Lecturer Position for Cultural Anthropologist

The Department of Anthropology at Rutgers University – New Brunswick seeks a cultural anthropologist for a one-year, full-time non-tenure track Lecturer to teach five courses in Anthropology during the 2023-2024 Academic Year. This is a non-renewable position. Candidates with PhD preferred, but will consider candidates who will defend their PhD in the fall. ABD candidates should include a letter from advisor re the status of the dissertation and expected date of defense. The search committee may request to see any candidate’s dissertation. The ideal candidate has extensive teaching experience. The teaching load for the year is five courses ideally to be taught as a 3/2 load. The fall 23 course schedule is set, so the candidate must be able to teach one of the following combinations of courses. All classes will be offered in-person on the New Brunswick campus. Fall 2023 Schedule: Either 108 Language, Culture, and Society (Tuesday & Friday 10:20 to 11:40 AM) OR 303 Wealth and Culture (Tuesday 10:20 AM to 1:20 PM) PLUS two of the following: 317 Method and Analysis in Cultural Anthropology (Wednesday 10:20 AM to 1:20 PM) 342 Urban Ecologies (Tuesday 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM) 217 Psychology and Culture (Monday & Thursday 10:20-11:40 AM). Candidates should state clearly in their cover letter whether they prefer to teach 108 or 303 and then they should rank the other three courses in order of their preference. To be considered please submit a CV with names and contacts of 3 references, a cover letter, and teaching statement detailing courses the candidate has taught and their proposed courses. The salary for AY 2023/24 will be at least $62,912. This position comes with full benefits including healthcare and retirement.
