Course Description:    Influence of culture on mind and of mind on culture. Relationship of the individual to culture and of personal experience to collective meaning. Topics include religious experience and altered states of consciousness; cultural basis of emotions, the senses, and “psychosomatic” and mental illnesses; relationship of selfhood and identity to nationhood and citizenship.
Prerequisite:    070:101 or permission of instructor.
